Our story

Why we exist

Aurelian began as a private archive of objects too considered to stay hidden — alabaster from Volterra, linen loomed in Belgium, brass sand-cast in a family foundry outside Florence.

Today we release small collections for collectors who want fewer, better things: pieces that age honestly and sit comfortably beside both antique wood and modern concrete.

Our journey

From quarry to collector.

The first archive
Chapter 01

The first archive

Julian began visiting quarries on weekends, collecting stones too beautiful to leave behind. What started as a personal obsession became a private archive of materials from Volterra to Carrara.

Florence atelier
Chapter 02

Florence atelier

In 2016 we partnered with a fourth-generation sand-casting workshop outside Florence. The first brass prototype took three weeks. We still work with the same family today.

First public collection
Chapter 03

First public collection

The Study series launched in 2018 with 120 numbered pieces. They sold out in 72 hours. Since then, every collection has been intentionally small — fewer, better things.

If we do our job honestly, the piece you bring home becomes heavier with use, not lighter.

Alabaster is an old stone — soft enough to carve with a spoon when freshly quarried, translucent enough to read a book by the light it carries.

On designing for quiet rooms.

On designing for quiet rooms.

The rooms I return to over and over share a common refusal. They refuse to perform. You can spend twenty minutes in one and leave without a single object asking for your attention, and yet the room has changed your mood.

A quiet room is not a minimal room — it is a room where every object is behaving like itself.

What makes a room quiet

Minimalism often shouts through absence: the single chair, the empty plane. Quietness is different. A quiet room can be full — books, rugs, lamps, a cat — but every object earns its place.
